This January I've been on a kind of survival mode, unable to process everything that came on my path. The last couple of days I realized that this may not be the best mode to be in. It costs less energy, but at the same time you close the door for light and beauty and new energy.When I was in my teens the drama of life inspired me way more than the happy days, they seemed superficial to me. Now it's completely the other way around. I don't want to cut myself off of the power of spending time on creating. So the question is: how to stay creative in stormy days? A challenge I would love to explore untill the storms have passed me by..

I kind of rediscovered my SLR today. I came to find the amount of pics on my laptop so overwhelming (and throwing away things is nót a talent of mine) that I put it aside for a while. I don't want to get ahead of things but I think these have holiday season all over them, but that might have something to do with the fact that I have been listening to christmas radio all day. (Yes even an alternetive rock, singer-songwriter type of girl has her guilty pleasures ;)

When I was a kid I wanted to be an inventor. One of my 'inventions' was a flying machine out of a cardboard box and balloons. I was convinced that I could take my sisters and friends on a flying trip if only I had enough balloons. Now I'm older and wiser and 'know' that it is not possible. To some extend it is a good thing to learn that there are limits, it keeps us safe. But I do wonder sometimes if we don't learn this there-are-limits-lesson to well. That we put limits where they don't need to be. I want to see the world again through the eyes of a child.

If something kinda sorta works for us, it's very unlikely we'll make changes. Even when it's relatively easy and very needed. That's why it's good to come to a point once in a while where you think: I need to make a difference now. Yesterday evening I made some changes in my interior and did some serious decluttering (again :). And although I still have a long way to go, and this may not sound like a big thing, the effect on my mood is huge. New energy and more importantly more peace :)

I did a little photoshoot with my mom last saturday, I love how the photos turned out! Life has been challenging for her and it's great to see her reconnect to the hippie-ish girl she once was. So here is to Flower Power :)

Yeah I finally had a good night of sleep. A complication after removing my wisdom teeth had me in pain day and night in the past week :(. So that's why I haven't been around much lately.. Ah this easter was so good for my soul, spend every minute*, from early in the morning untill late in the evening, outside. walking, picknicking, sunbathing, chatting & eating. This little four legged fellow is almost one year old. It was meant to go for sale, but I just wasn't able to let him go. It was made to be a symbol for all things 'impossible' and adventurous and that is what it reminds me of every morning when I see it: Go one small step out of your comfortzone and several steps out of what you think to be realistic. As long as I need that message, it stays! :)

Yesterday I was so fed up with not being able to do anything at home because my computer wasn't working that I gave up, robbed my bank account and bought me a new (very sweet: 10,1 inch) baby who is sitting on my lap right now.

It such a thrill being connected again. I also feel the need to reconnect with myself. Life can be distracting sometimes. So today I plan to find the time to do just that!

I was very excited to take my first steps in analogue photography again, ordered a polaroid film from the the-impossible-project (and polaroid films don't come cheap!) and developped my film. But.. the photos didn't turn out okay as you can see.. (polaroids are not developped well and the film has a black piece on the left side). Can somebody please help me out here?

Staying On Track

On new years afternoon I sat down with some coffee, books and the newspaper of that day and to think about the coming year and decide what my year theme should be. I found my main question was: How to keep that inner fire burning? In the last couple of years I really discovered what's important to me, what I want to spend my time on and what not. But somehow I find I'm easily distracted, mostly by what I think people expect from me or just by everyday life. My theme for 2011 is staying on track (on track = staying true to what I think is important). I think the best (and most fun:) way to this, is reading about subjects that really matter to me. Why not start right now? Tonight I ordered the first book of my list: The art of non-confirmity.

Although I'm not really a high heels and lots of make up girl I love to make an exception for the christmas dinner. I already planned my outfit, a new mix of things I've had for ages, good thing that I hardly throw anything away:)

And I have the honour to not only see it, but its my 'escape to the country' quite regulary. It was great when I first saw it and becoming prettier by the year! My friends did a great job!

Improvising

Last Sunday we decided to do a last minute 'Sinteklaas' gathering with a big pile of improvised gifts & sweets (left overs from four households). It was real fun to see how creative everybody had been making something of all most nothing!

(the pile of gifts was irresitable for my little nephew who kept on diving into it :)

A good way to stay to stay warm. Another good way to stay warm: hats. Suddenly a great variety of hats emerge at the Dutch streets (Russsian hats, 1930 hats, woolen hats, classy ones). I don't know where they come from, but people you look so good!

This time last year was very rainy, now we have snow! I am enjoying these cold days and time indoors a lot so far. The hot coffee and hot choclate just taste so good after a walk in the freezing cold & since yesterday evening there is the a light but lovely scent of the (real!) christmas tree. Good time for deep thoughts and lots of reading. Hello December!
